My first teaching experience....

Hi all..

I'm back with my new reflection about my microteaching class..

So, today I will talk about my first teaching experience in macroteaching session..On December 10, we have a replacement class with our lecturer, Dr Ros and on that day we learn about the various skill in teaching. Among the skills that we have learn is the induction skills, reinforcement skills, explanation skills, writing skills and many more. It is very important for us to learn about the skills because it will help a lot in teaching.

The lesson take about half an hour, then we are divided into groups of 6 person to start our first microteaching session. Then we choose our own classroom to start our microteaching session. This time, we have to teach for about 10 minutes and my lecturers will come to observe us. The other group members will evaluate my teaching by giving 5 positive and 5 negative point.

For this trial microteaching, I choose to teach about the small medium industries. Frankly speaking, i'm very nervous because it is my first teaching experience. Eventhough I just teach 5 people and it only takes about 10 minutes, but I feel very nervous and pressure. However, after delivered my set of induction, I start to feel a bit comfortable and I able to overcome my nervousness.

Based on the comment made by my groups, I should improve on my writing skills because it's a bit small, then I should be more serious in teaching because they said that I do a lot of laughing like i'm not well prepared, and I talk too fast and also lack of content. I also need to improve my set of induction.

After we all done with the teaching, then we combined with another groups to listen to our lecturer's comment about our performance. Basically we all done the same mistake, which is asking too much question to the students and also not using simulation skills to encourage the students to answer the question. So for the next reteach session, we should improve on all the mistake that we make on this trial microteaching.

So, I think that's all for now..for the next post I will talk about my reteach session. So, wait for that ya....
Bye.....

Classroom management..

Hi all...

Today on 3rd Dec, I have another microteaching class. This time I learn about the classroom management. I'm sure that this topic very familiar with teachers out there, right?.

For me this topic is quite interesting and important. We discuss about the students problem at school and sharing an opinion on how to overcome it. Among the problems that have been highlighted by my classmates is rudeness, cheating, lateness, not respect the teachers and many more. According to Dr Ros, we as a teacher should know how to handle students problem at class. Nowadays, yelling and scolding at the students is not practical anymore. We have to use the psychology thing to tackle them. So teachers need to think immediately and should be able to control the situation. Remember, in the class teachers is the boss. So we have to act like one.
Teachers also need to be well prepared before coming to the class. The lesson plan should be ready and it should be follow so that we can achieve the objectives that have been set. However, teachers do not have to depend so much on the lesson plan itself. It is becoz sometimes thing will not happen as what we have plan. So, it is important for the teachers to have other plan and to think immediately in any situation that might happen.
After taking 5 min breaks, Dr Ros asked us to change the class arrangement by doing a group of four person. With this new arrangement, I can feel that we are more close to the lecturer because she able to reach every one of us compared to the normal class arrangement. It will make the communication much more easier to both party. This kind of seating arrangement also encourage the students to discuss and share opinion among the groups members.
Dr Ros Aizan also has introduce to us the contract for students. It maybe sound unfamiliar to some of you, and me either, but it is something that can be apply back in school. The contract for students is the contract that teachers made, and will be sign by the students. It contains the rule that the teacher want the students to follow in her class. By doing this, I think that the students will feel more responsible to themself and they will be more aware about the teacher expectation towards them. Unfortunately, I'm not done doing my version of the contract for students yet, but as soon as it complete I will post it here to share with all of u..ok...
So I think that's all for now. I need to start thinking and doing the lesson plan for my microteaching session by now. Wish me luck ok..

New things...

Hi all..i'm back..
Well..I want to talk about the microteaching class today. Today class with Dr. Ros Aizan is very interesting to me. At my 3 hour classes, she teach about many things. First, about the teaching philosophy which I never had one before huhu..Second, she teach about the lesson plan, which is very very very essential to all teachers to do it as part of our job and also helping us in achieving our teaching objectives..The last and the most interesting one is that she teach us how to blog. The purpose to have our own blog is to reflect and sharing our opinion about microteaching with...ummm..people around the world maybe =) . Actually, blogging is very new to me. I never blog before so I really didn't know how to do it. Thanks to my friends, Aini and Dr. Ros especially because help me a lot in creating my blog. At first, I feel not comfortable in writing at my blog because before this, I never do such thing. In fact, I never have diary my entire life. But, after I done with my first post, i'm start to enjoy this blogging thing. So, I've spent the whole day in editing, posting and changing my blog templates..hehehe
My microteaching class today end with Dr. Ros giving us an assignment that have to be complete by next week, and I have to prepare for microteaching that will start next week..(my God!!..I'm really nervous about that).
So, I think that's all for now....(^_^)v

My teaching philosophy..

Hai all...my microteaching class today with Dr. Ros Aizan is about creating our own teaching philosophy. Honest to say that until today I do not have my teaching philosophy yet. Thanks to Dr Ros because she made me realize how important to have my own teaching philosophy. It is to help me in my teaching practices when I start to teach. Today, I have create my teaching philosophy and I think I would practicing it when i'm teaching my students.

So, here is my teaching philosophy..

"My teaching philosophy is to provide the students with knowledge, practices and skills that they can use or apply in the real world and ensure that they can contribute to their family, society and nation. As a teacher, I want to tackle my students with various teaching method because each students have their own inteligences and I want my students to be able to communicate and sharing information with each other by working in a group. My job as a teacher is to guide them and make them to think ahead rather than just take the information that I give. I also want to build a good relationship with all my students so that they will feel comfortable with me and hope that will increase their motivation to learn. Lastly I want to motivate all my students to continue to learn throughout their entire lives"

I hope that you all can comment on my teaching philosophy so that I can improve it..ok...

Till then..see u in my next post..
